Sirba Secondary School Rehabilitation (West Darfur)
One Community Organization Transforms School into Shelter and Psychological Support Center

West Darfur, Sudan – April 2024
In an urgent humanitarian response, One Community for Peace and Development rehabilitated and cleaned Sirba Secondary School, transforming it into a shelter for displaced persons and war refugees after fires destroyed most of the residents’ homes.
Safe Haven and Psychological Support
In addition to providing a haven, the organization offered essential psychological support to affected families. This support aimed to help them overcome the trauma caused by the war and enhance their resilience in the face of challenging circumstances.
Hub for Humanitarian Aid
Subsequently, the rehabilitated school became a headquarters for international organizations to deliver humanitarian aid. This contributed to improved support for the war-affected local community and ensured the provision of essential services to meet the needs of the most vulnerable groups.

One Community Organization Launches Integrated Educational and Digital Initiatives to Promote Peace in Darfur

West & East Darfur, Sudan – 2024
Through its field offices in the localities of Yassin and Sirba, the One Community Organization for Peace and Development launched a set of integrated initiatives to enhance education and community/digital peacebuilding across Darfur States.
1. Educational and Digital Empowerment
- Education: We facilitated the enrollment of several primary and middle school students in UNICEF’s Sudan Learning Platform, ensuring educational continuity despite challenges.
- Digital Peacebuilding: Virtual seminars addressing issues of peace and development were organized. We also launched a social media awareness campaign to promote the culture of peace and reject hate speech.
2. Women’s Protection and Empowerment
- Protection from GBV: An awareness session for women was conducted in Yassin locality (East Darfur), focusing on protection from gender-based violence.
- Combating Digital Hate: A virtual seminar was held on combating hate speech on social media platforms, reinforcing a safe digital environment.
This project highlights the organization’s commitment to addressing both basic needs (education) and the social roots of conflict (peace and GBV prevention).
